About buncol
buncol is a workspace for worldbuilding and writing. You collect everything about a world in one project - the stories, the notes, the maps and the places - and you can work on it alone or invite others to build it with you.
What you can do
Everything happens inside a project. A project has:
- Writing - epics, stories, notes and snippets, written in a rich-text editor. You can also import existing text.
- World - a 3D world builder. Sculpt and paint objects such as planets, flat worlds and ring worlds, or import your own 3D models. Arrange objects in scenes with orbits and lighting, and zoom in on a spot of a planet to make a location: a map with terrain you can paint and decorate. Pins link your writing to places in the world.
- Forum - a place to discuss the project, with sections, threads and replies. You decide whether only members, all logged-in users or everyone can read it, and who may post.
- Members and roles - invite people, let them ask to join, or let anyone join. Each member has a role, and each role has a set of permissions, so you decide exactly who can read, write, build or moderate.
- Audit log - an automatic record of who changed what in the project.

Who runs it
buncol is a personal hobby project, built and run by LLMpeeters in spare time. It is free to use. There are no ads, no trackers and no analytics, and your work is not sold or used for anything other than running the site.
Site moderators handle reports of content that breaks the Community Guidelines, and everyone can appeal a moderation decision.
Where it stands
buncol is a work in progress. Writing and the world builder work and keep growing; project roles, forums, the audit log and site moderation are new. Features change, and now and then something breaks, so keep your own copies of work that matters to you - the weekly e-mail backup in your account settings helps with that.
